Learning how to use highlighter makeup on your skin is key to achieving a radiant look. In fact, a touch of perfectly placed highlighter can help instantly open up the look of your eyes, define your face, and create symmetry. There are 3 types of highlighted looks and you have to decide which one is your favorite or best suited for your occasion.
You have the matte highlighted look that is achieved by using concealer to bring contrast dimensions to face that is called contouring. This look is for people that do not like shimmer and this is a look that anyone can achieve and works.
The next look is achieved by placing a highlighting product to strategic places on the faces to create more accentuated looks. It gives the face pop!
The last look is the radiant goddess look which is not for everyone. It is usually intense areas of shimmering highlight. It is a very Rihanna look (that girls glows all the time).
Cheekbones are the most common place for people to apply highlighter as it is the most natural spot for light to hit the face. Doing so will create a more defined, contoured facial structure while also giving your skin a more youthful appearance especially if you have under eye discoloration. It is a way to bring attention to a natural focal point of the face. Using a fan brush is a tried and true method to precisely apply and diffuse a powder highlighter for a subtle appearance.
If you want goddess glow, then apply with a blush brush over bronzer and or blush brush. A blush brush will also make a wider area of placement the you can extend up from the top of the check bone to the temple area. If you are using a cream highlighter, still apply lightly and without pressing hard. Dabbing or patting is best so you don't disturb foundation.
There is a huge difference between goddess glow and disco ball so always apply lightly and build up!
Applying highlighter to the cupids bow of the lips gives them a fuller appearance and draws attention to your mouth area.
By highlighting beneath the arch of your eyebrows, your eyes will appear more awake, and your eyebrow shape will be more defined. It also is great for disguise overgrown eyebrows (my everyday life) by emphasizing shape.
Applying a shimmer shadow or highlighter to the inner corner of the eyes is a great way to bring light to the eyes and distract from under eye darkness. It will certainly make you appear awake and vibrant.
Lightly apply your choice of highlighter makeup down the bridge of your nose to make it appear thinner. or on the tip of it to accentuate it and draw attention to that point.
Applying a light amount of highlighter, a lighter concealer or lighter foundation to the center of the forehead brings definition and attention to the center of the face. Applying highlight to the center of your forehead will create a more contoured face especially when applying a darker color to your to your temples.
Another key high point to apply highlighter to is your chin. Brightening up this spot may seem unnecessary but it is another way to helping you achieve a more defined.
